Tecno Pova 8 Pro 5G: 6,500mAh Battery and a Mini LED Matrix on the Back for Under $250

Tecno launched the Pova 8 Pro 5G in India on August 21, 2026. The device is positioned in the sub-$250 segment and includes features rarely found at this price: a 6,500mAh battery, IP69K water resistance, and a mini LED matrix display on the rear panel.
Specifications
The Pova 8 Pro 5G uses a MediaTek Dimensity 7400 Ultimate chip with an AnTuTu score exceeding 800,000. The display is a 6.78-inch AMOLED panel with a 144Hz refresh rate and 1,300 nits peak brightness. The battery supports 45W fast charging via USB-C.
The rear panel includes a mini LED matrix display with 104 individually addressable LEDs. It displays notifications, battery status, and custom animations. This is a feature borrowed from Nothing’s Glyph interface, implemented at a lower cost.
The camera system consists of a 50MP Sony IMX882 main sensor with optical image stabilization, an 8MP ultrawide, and a 2MP depth sensor. The front camera is 32MP. The device is rated IP69K, meaning it can withstand high-pressure water jets and dust ingress.
Availability and Pricing
The Pova 8 Pro 5G launched exclusively on Flipkart in India. Tecno has not disclosed international availability. The pricing is aggressive even by Indian market standards, where Xiaomi, Realme, and Samsung dominate the sub-$300 segment.
Verdict
The Pova 8 Pro 5G is a specification sheet triumph. A 6,500mAh battery, 144Hz AMOLED, and IP69K certification at this price point are genuinely unusual. The Dimensity 7400 Ultimate is a capable chip for gaming and daily tasks.
The LED matrix is a gimmick, but it is a distinctive one. The camera system is adequate but not competitive with the 50MP+12MP+50MP arrays found on devices like the Redmi Note 16 Pro. The 2MP depth sensor is filler.
For buyers in India who prioritize battery life and durability over camera versatility, the Pova 8 Pro 5G is a compelling option. For buyers who need consistent software updates or a proven track record of after-sales support, Tecno remains a riskier choice than Xiaomi or Samsung.
