Samsung announced the Galaxy S26 FE on August 27, 2026, during its « Galaxy Event August 2026 » livestream. The device is the newest addition to the Galaxy S26 family and the first in the lineup to launch with One UI 9 out of the box. It goes on sale September 4 in select markets. At $699, it sits $100 below the standard Galaxy S26 and carries the same Exynos 2500 chipset that powered last year’s Galaxy Z Flip 7. Whether that represents value or compromise depends on what you compare it to.
The Specs: Incremental on Paper, Controversial in Context
The Galaxy S26 FE features a 6.7-inch FHD+ Dynamic LTPO AMOLED 2X display with a 120Hz refresh rate and HDR10+ support. Peak brightness reaches 1,900 nits. The panel is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus+ on both front and back, with an aluminum frame. The device measures 161.6 x 76.9 x 7.4 mm and weighs 193 grams. The chipset is Samsung’s Exynos 2500, built on a 3nm process. It uses a 10-core configuration: one Cortex-X925 at 3.3 GHz, two Cortex-A725 at 2.74 GHz, five Cortex-A725 at 2.36 GHz, and two Cortex-A520 at 1.8 GHz. The GPU is the Xclipse 950. RAM is fixed at 8 GB across all storage tiers. Storage options are 128 GB, 256 GB, and 512 GB, all using UFS 4.0. There is no microSD card slot.
The camera array is unchanged from the S25 FE: a 50 MP main sensor with f/1.8 aperture and OIS, an 8 MP telephoto with 3x optical zoom, and a 12 MP ultrawide. The front camera is 12 MP. Video recording supports 8K at 24/30 fps and 4K at up to 120 fps. Samsung’s official press release confirms these specifications.
The battery is a 4,900 mAh silicon-carbon cell with 45W wired charging and 15W wireless charging. Samsung claims 69% charge in 30 minutes via wired connection. The device is IP68 rated and supports Samsung DeX and Wireless DeX.
The Software: One UI 9 and Seven Years of Updates
The S26 FE is the first Galaxy S26 model to ship with One UI 9 based on Android 17. Samsung promises seven generations of OS upgrades and seven years of security updates from the global launch date. This matches Google’s commitment for the Pixel 10 series and exceeds what most Android manufacturers offer in the mid-range segment.
New software features include an updated Now Brief, Now Nudge, and Circle to Search with Google. Samsung is also bringing My FanCam — previously exclusive to the Z Fold 8 and Z Flip 8 — to the FE line. This feature automatically tracks a selected person in video, keeping them centered and intelligently reframing as the scene moves. Super Steady with Horizontal Lock, which debuted on the Galaxy S26 series in February, is also included.
The Pricing: $699, But the RAM Is Stuck at 8 GB
Samsung priced the Galaxy S26 FE at $699.99 for the 128 GB model in the United States. The 256 GB variant is £799 in the UK, and the 512 GB model is £949. European pricing starts at €699. The device is available in Blueberry, Graphite, and Pistachio.
The pricing is aggressive relative to the standard S26, but the 8 GB RAM ceiling is a limitation. In 2026, with AI workloads and multitasking demands increasing, 8 GB is the minimum for a smooth experience. The standard Galaxy S26 ships with 12 GB. The S26 FE’s fixed 8 GB configuration suggests Samsung is protecting the premium tier rather than pushing the FE as a true flagship alternative.

The Exynos 2500 Question
The Exynos 2500 is the same chip that powered the Galaxy Z Flip 7 in 2025. It is a capable processor, but it is not the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 that Samsung uses in its highest-end devices. In benchmark comparisons, the Exynos 2500 trails Qualcomm’s flagship by approximately 15-20% in multi-core workloads and significantly more in GPU-intensive tasks.
For the average user — social media, photography, light gaming — the difference is negligible. For power users who edit video, play demanding games, or run multiple AI apps simultaneously, the gap is noticeable. Samsung’s decision to use Exynos rather than Snapdragon in the FE is a cost-saving measure, and it is the single biggest compromise in the device.
What Is Not Known
Samsung has not disclosed carrier-specific pricing or trade-in values for all markets. The availability of the 512 GB variant varies by region — it is listed in the UK but not confirmed for the US. Samsung Care+ pricing and promotion details also vary by country. The long-term thermal performance of the Exynos 2500 in the S26 FE chassis has not been independently tested.
Verdict
The Galaxy S26 FE is not a revolutionary device. It is an incremental update that swaps the Exynos 2400 for the 2500, adds One UI 9, and extends software support to seven years. At $699, it undercuts the standard S26 by $100 while delivering roughly 85% of the experience. That is the Fan Edition formula, and Samsung has shown no interest in changing it.
The problem is context. In 2026, the mid-range Android market is crowded. Google’s Pixel 10a, expected in early 2027, will likely ship with the Tensor G6 and Google’s AI suite at a similar price. OnePlus and Xiaomi continue to offer more RAM and faster charging for less money. The S26 FE’s 8 GB RAM cap and 45W charging — unchanged from last year — look conservative against Chinese competition.
What the S26 FE offers is ecosystem continuity. If you own a Galaxy Watch, Galaxy Buds, or a Samsung tablet, the FE integrates seamlessly. If you value software longevity over raw specs, the seven-year update promise is genuine value. But if you are buying on hardware merit alone, there are better deals elsewhere. The S26 FE is a safe choice, not an exciting one. For Samsung, that is exactly the point.
