Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 Expands to Four Players and Adds a Build-Your-Own Class

By OFOKI TECH | August 20, 2026

Cold Iron Studios will release Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 on August 25, 2026, five years after the original. The sequel keeps the cooperative third-person shooter structure but increases squad size from three to four players, introduces a fully customizable Specialist class, and adds dedicated Horde maps at launch.

The Core Changes

The most significant structural change is the expansion to four-player co-op. The original Fireteam Elite supported three players. Cold Iron says the change is supported by deeper squad mechanics, revised classes, and encounters designed for larger teams. Full cross-platform multiplayer and cross-platform voice chat are included.

The new Specialist class is fully customizable. Players can mix major and minor abilities from other classes to create unique builds. This is intended as an endgame option for players who have mastered the standard classes and want more flexibility.

Enemy Variety

The game features new and returning Xenomorph variants. Confirmed returning types include the Drone, which sneaks up on players, attacks, and retreats to ventilation shafts. New types include the Harbinger, described as « more mouth than body » with six arms that pin players while attacking. The Steam page mentions a « massive variety of new xenomorphs » with varied attack patterns.

In addition to Xenomorphs, players will face Pathogen creatures and Weyland-Yutani combat synthetics. The developers state that all enemies, not just special types, have received an intelligence upgrade and will attack from walls and ceilings.

Weapons and Customization

Weapon customization has been expanded. The game includes fire modes, Augments, and unique Weapon Traits. Gear customization and combat tools such as pyro and electric ammo are also mentioned. This represents a deeper modification system than the first game, though Cold Iron has not detailed the full extent of options.

Horde Mode

The sequel launches with multiple dedicated Horde maps. These offer escalating waves of enemies with increasingly valuable rewards for squads that survive deeper into the onslaught. The first game added Horde maps post-launch; the sequel includes them from day one.

Editions and Pricing

Two editions are available at launch. The Standard Edition costs $49.99. The 40th Anniversary Premium Edition costs $69.99 and includes the Ripley’s Hive Exterminator Pack, Herk Mondo’s Pest Pack, and additional cosmetic content. A separate Rain’s Jackson’s Star Pack, inspired by Alien: Romulus, is also planned.

Platforms

The game releases on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Steam, and Epic Games Store. No PlayStation 4 or Xbox One versions have been announced.
