Panasonic has not introduced any successor to the Lumix S1H, its video‑focused full‑frame model launched in 2019. But a detailed specification sheet leaked from Chinese social media in July 2026 has generated significant interest among filmmakers and camera reviewers. The leak describes a camera that blurs the line between mirrorless hybrid and dedicated cinema camera, with internal ProRes RAW recording, 4K at 240 frames per second, and 32-bit float audio.
The Leaked Specifications
The leak, which Digital Camera World reported in July 2026, claims the following specifications for the S1H II:
- 4K/240p uncropped internal recording
- 5.1K/120p open gate ProRes RAW internal
- V-Log2 gamma curve
- 16+ stops of dynamic range
- Arri codec support (likely Arriraw or a compressed variant)
- ProRes 4444 XQ internal recording
- 32-bit float audio recording
- Phase Hybrid autofocus system
- 8.5 stops of in-body image stabilization
- 120fps continuous stills shooting
- Dual CFexpress Type B card slots
- New active cooling system
If accurate, these specifications would place the S1H II in direct competition with cameras like the RED Komodo-X and the Arri Alexa 35, at a fraction of the price. The original S1H was already a capable video camera, with 6K/24p internal recording and V-Log, but it was hampered by contrast-detect autofocus that struggled with moving subjects. The rumored Phase Hybrid AF system would address that weakness.
Panasonic’s Response
Panasonic has not confirmed the leak, but the company has not denied it either. Digital Camera World noted that Panasonic representatives have stated a successor to the S1H will arrive « at some point, » without specifying a timeline. The S1H was discontinued in some markets in 2024, and Panasonic’s full-frame lineup has been relatively quiet since the launch of the S5 II in 2023.
The S1H II, if real, would represent a significant re-entry into the professional video market. The original S1H was Netflix-approved for original production, and the sequel would likely pursue the same certification.
The Cooling System
One detail that stands out in the leak is the « new active cooling system. » The original S1H used a fan-based cooling system that allowed for unlimited recording times, a rarity in mirrorless cameras at the time. The S1H II is rumored to use a more advanced version of this system, possibly with liquid cooling or a larger heatsink, to handle the heat generated by 4K/240p and 5.1K/120p recording.
Pricing and Positioning
The original S1H launched at $3,999. Given the rumored specifications, the S1H II could launch at $4,999 or higher, positioning it between high-end mirrorless cameras like the Sony A1 II and entry-level cinema cameras like the Canon C70.
