Assassin’s Creed Black Flag: Resynced launched on July 9, 2026. Ubisoft confirmed the date on April 23, 2026, during a worldwide reveal showcase. The game is a ground-up remake of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, originally released in 2013. It is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC through the Ubisoft Store, Steam, the Epic Games Store, and Steam Deck. It also streams via Nvidia GeForce Now and Blacknut.

The launch was strong. Ubisoft announced that the game sold two million copies at launch.

A Remake Built From Scratch

Ubisoft Singapore led development. The studio rebuilt the entire game in the latest version of the Anvil engine. This is not a remaster. According to Ubisoft’s deep dive, each quest was built from scratch. The directors played through the original, noted what was confusing or outdated, and reworked level layouts, parkour paths, and scripted events. The cities and locations follow the same general layout as before, but the details were revised to match modern mechanics.

What Changed in the Gameplay

The combat system now uses the parry-driven mechanics introduced in Assassin’s Creed Shadows. The parkour system has been fully revised.

The most requested change concerns tailing and eavesdropping missions. In the original Black Flag, failing these meant immediate desynchronization. According to Ubisoft, Resynced modifies this so that getting caught or losing sight of a target no longer forces a restart. Instead, the objective switches. Players might need to enter combat and locate a note on a defeated enemy, chase the target down, or investigate a different location.

The Rope Dart, originally unlocked later in the game, is now available in Sequence 3. A Skip Time feature allows players to cycle from day to night outside of combat.

Templar Hunts from the original have been reworked to match modern parkour standards. Assassin Contracts return and have been redistributed across the map, with additional dialogue and deeper motivations for the targets.

New Content and Returning Voices

Matt Ryan, the original voice of Edward Kenway, returned to record brand-new lines for the remake. Woodkid composed a reimagined version of the sea shanty « Leave her Johnny » for the soundtrack.

Visual and Technical Overhaul

Ubisoft lists ray tracing, a dynamic weather system, and Dolby Atmos among the technical additions. The game features a total visual overhaul of the Caribbean environments.

Editions and Pricing

The Standard Edition is priced at $59.99. The Deluxe Edition costs $69.99 and includes two cosmetic packs. Pre-orders receive the Blackbeard’s Crimson Pack at no extra cost.

What Ubisoft Has Not Clarified

Despite the level of detail in the remake, several questions remain unanswered. Ubisoft has not confirmed whether multiplayer will be added post-launch. The original Black Flag included a multiplayer mode that has no equivalent in Resynced.

The company has also not published independent benchmark data comparing the remake’s performance across platforms. Specific resolution and frame rate targets for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S remain unspecified in the official documentation.

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag: Resynced is Ubisoft’s most comprehensive remake to date. The studio did not simply upscale textures.
