AMD Brings 3D V-Cache to Commercial Workstations for the First Time With Expanded Ryzen PRO 9000 Series

AMD announced in May 2026 that it is expanding its Ryzen PRO 9000 Series processor lineup with six new SKUs, and for the first time in the commercial desktop segment, select models will feature AMD 3D V-Cache technology. The announcement marks a shift in how AMD positions its workstation processors, moving beyond the traditional 65W power envelope that has defined the PRO series for years and into higher-TDP territory that more directly competes with enthusiast-grade hardware. Systems based on these new processors are expected to begin shipping in the second half of 2026, with the Lenovo ThinkStation P4 workstation currently planned for availability in Q3 2026.
What 3D V-Cache Brings to the PRO Lineup
Until this expansion, AMD had never offered 3D V-Cache on its Ryzen PRO models for commercial desktops. The technology, which stacks additional cache memory vertically on top of the CPU die, has been available on consumer-grade Ryzen X3D processors since the Ryzen 7 5800X3D launched in 2022. In the workstation context, the additional cache is designed to accelerate data access in complex, data-intensive workloads such as simulation, rendering, and real-time visualization.

Two of the six new SKUs feature 3D V-Cache. The flagship is the Ryzen 9 PRO 9965X3D, a 16-core, 32-thread processor with a 4.3GHz base clock and up to a 5.5GHz boost clock. It carries 128MB of L3 cache, made up of the standard 64MB across two eight-core CCDs plus an additional 64MB of 3D V-Cache stacked underneath one of those CCDs. The TDP is rated at 170W, which is the same as the consumer Ryzen 9 9950X3D it is based on. This is the first time a Ryzen PRO CPU has broken the 65W power limit that previously capped the entire PRO series.
The second X3D model is the Ryzen 7 PRO 9755X3D, an 8-core, 16-thread part with a 4.7GHz base clock, up to a 5.2GHz boost clock, and 96MB of L3 cache. Its TDP is 120W. Because this chip uses a single eight-core CCD, the 3D V-Cache stacking is simpler: 32MB of standard L3 plus 64MB of stacked cache.
The Full SKU Stack
AMD has released the full specifications for all six new processors. The lineup now ranges from 6 cores to 16 cores, and from 65W to 170W:
- Ryzen 9 PRO 9965X3D: 16 cores, 32 threads, up to 5.5GHz boost, 128MB L3 cache, 170W TDP
- Ryzen 9 PRO 9965: 16 cores, 32 threads, up to 5.5GHz boost, 64MB L3 cache, 170W TDP
- Ryzen 9 PRO 9955: 12 cores, 24 threads, up to 5.4GHz boost, 64MB L3 cache, 120W TDP
- Ryzen 7 PRO 9755X3D: 8 cores, 16 threads, up to 5.2GHz boost, 96MB L3 cache, 120W TDP
- Ryzen 7 PRO 9755: 8 cores, 16 threads, up to 5.4GHz boost, 32MB L3 cache, 120W TDP
- Ryzen 5 PRO 9655: 6 cores, 12 threads, up to 5.4GHz boost, 32MB L3 cache, 120W TDP
These six new models join the existing three 65W SKUs that launched earlier: the Ryzen 9 PRO 9945, Ryzen 7 PRO 9745, and Ryzen 5 PRO 9645. This gives AMD a total of nine Ryzen PRO 9000 Series processors, covering everything from compact, power-optimized business desktops to full-scale tower workstations.

Performance Claims and Target Workloads
AMD has published specific performance comparisons for the Ryzen 9 PRO 9965X3D against Intel’s Core Ultra 9 285K. The company claims up to 13% higher performance in Autodesk Maya 2024, 9% faster Unreal Engine compilation, and 19% higher Chaos V-Ray CPU performance. These are workstation-specific workloads, not gaming benchmarks, which aligns with the PRO series’ target market of creative professionals, engineers, and data scientists.
All new Ryzen PRO 9000 processors support up to 256GB of ECC DDR5 memory and PCIe 5.0 connectivity. As with all PRO series chips, they include AMD PRO security and manageability features, such as long-term firmware and driver validation, which are designed for enterprise IT environments.
Availability and Positioning
AMD has stated that systems featuring the new processors will begin rolling out in the second half of 2026. The Lenovo ThinkStation P4 is the first confirmed workstation to use the new chips, with availability expected in Q3 2026. AMD lists Dell Technologies, HP, and Lenovo as partners for the broader rollout.

It is worth noting that these processors are not available for retail purchase. Like all Ryzen PRO SKUs, they are sold exclusively through OEMs and system integrators. Pricing is not disclosed formally for PRO series processors.
The expansion creates an interesting overlap with AMD’s consumer lineup. The Ryzen 9 PRO 9965X3D is functionally the workstation equivalent of the Ryzen 9 9950X3D, just with PRO branding and enterprise features. For organizations that already use AMD workstations, the new chips offer a path to upgrade without changing platforms, since all Ryzen PRO 9000 processors use the AM5 socket.
