GoPro Hero 14 Black: 8K/30fps, a Larger Sensor, and a Bulkier Body

GoPro has not announced a Hero 14, but the company has confirmed it will unveil a new generation of action cameras at the NAB Show 2026, which runs from April 18 to 22 in Las Vegas. Leaks from supply chain sources and early firmware analysis point to a device that prioritizes image quality over compactness, with a larger sensor, 8K recording, and a noticeably thicker body than the Hero 13.
A New GP3 Processor
The Hero 14 is expected to debut a new image processor, likely called GP3, replacing the GP2 that has powered GoPro’s lineup since the Hero 10 in 2021. The GP2 was already a significant leap over its predecessor, enabling 5.3K/60fps and 4K/120fps. The GP3 is expected to push that to 8K/30fps, a resolution that has become standard on flagship smartphones but has remained elusive in the action camera segment due to heat and power constraints.
The 8K mode is rumored to support multiple aspect ratios, including 4:3, 9:16, and 16:9, giving users more flexibility for vertical social media content and traditional widescreen footage.
Larger Sensor, Larger Body
The most significant hardware change may be the sensor. NotebookCheck reported that the Hero 14 will use a physically larger image sensor than the Hero 13, which should improve low-light performance and dynamic range. The tradeoff is size: the body is expected to be bulkier than the Hero 13, possibly returning to the dimensions of older Hero models before GoPro aggressively slimmed down the lineup.
The leak also mentions an ambient light sensor and two front-facing microphones, suggesting improvements to auto-exposure and audio quality. The ambient light sensor could enable smarter automatic exposure adjustments when transitioning between bright outdoor and dim indoor environments, a common pain point for action camera users.
NAB Show 2026
GoPro’s presence at NAB Show 2026 is notable because the company has historically avoided broadcast-focused trade shows in favor of consumer electronics events like CES. The decision to unveil at NAB suggests GoPro is targeting professional content creators and broadcast integrators, not just extreme sports enthusiasts. The Hero 14’s 8K resolution and larger sensor would align with that positioning.
The Hero 13 Black launched in September 2024 at $399. If GoPro maintains its pricing strategy, the Hero 14 would likely debut at the same price point, with the Hero 13 remaining on sale at a discount.
