Rockstar to Premiere GTA VI Extended Look on Netflix on August 27

By OFOKI TECH | August 11, 2026

Rockstar Games has announced that an extended look at Grand Theft Auto VI will premiere on Netflix on August 27, 2026. This marks the first time a major video game publisher has used Netflix as the primary platform to debut marketing footage for a blockbuster title. The premiere will air at 3 p.m. ET on Netflix, followed by a wider release on Rockstar’s YouTube channel and the official GTA VI website at 9 p.m. ET. The game itself is scheduled for release on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.

Netflix as a Marketing Platform

Netflix described the partnership as a « first-of-its-kind collaboration » to premiere extended marketing content for a major video game. The move places GTA VI in the same promotional lane as blockbuster film releases, which frequently debut trailers as streaming exclusives before wider distribution. Rockstar has not disclosed the runtime or specific content of the extended look, though the term suggests footage beyond the scope of the two previous trailers. The first GTA VI trailer, released in December 2023, drew 93 million views in 24 hours on YouTube. The second trailer, in May 2025, reached 475 million views across all platforms in the same timeframe.

Pre-Order Numbers and Pricing

Pre-orders opened on June 25, 2026, following the cover art reveal on June 18. The standard edition is priced at $79.99, above the current $70 industry standard. An Ultimate Edition at $99.99 includes additional in-game vehicles, weapons, apparel, and missions. Physical retail boxes contain a download code rather than a disc, a decision that drew complaints from some retailers and consumers.

According to Newzoo, GTA VI generated approximately $180 million in digital pre-order sales across the US and the five largest European markets in its first week. Using GTA V’s lifetime console player distribution as a reference, Newzoo estimates global first-week pre-order spending at roughly $260 million, the strongest opening the firm has ever recorded. Newzoo projects the game is on track to book between $3.25 billion and $5.2 billion in cumulative sales by the end of launch week, equivalent to roughly 37 to 51 million units at an assumed average selling price of $88. The firm also directly debunked viral claims of $1 billion in pre-orders, calling the figure « absurd. »

What the Extended Look Might Show

Rockstar has released no specifics about the content of the August 27 footage. Based on the « extended look » framing, the video is expected to run several minutes, longer than the 90-second to two-minute trailers released previously. It may include gameplay sequences, cutscenes, or open-world footage. Rockstar has historically retained full control over pre-release footage, producing all trailers internally rather than distributing preview builds to press or creators. The Netflix premiere will be accessible at netflix.com/GTAVI. The YouTube version will follow on Rockstar’s official channel at 9 p.m. ET.
